Who’s Firing summarizes weekly research of companies announcing and rumoring layoffs for the week ended 11-26-10.
For the past week defense, manufacturing, insurance and hospitality employers announced the largest layoffs.
This information is intended for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers and others who are interested in companies that are contracting. The information can be valuable to job seekers also, to understand companies that are probably not in growth mode.
Top Layoffs week ended 11-26:
Defense topped the list, as Pine Bluff Chemical Agent Disposal Facility announced 1,100 layoffs due to facility closure. Manufacturing company Whirlpool will drop 590 staff at its Fort Smith AR facility due to softening in product demand.
Insurance was next as State Farm announced it would layoff over 450 employees as it’s closing California regional offices. Hospitality company Claim Jumper announced layoffs of 400 employees as it closes several California locations as a part of its bankruptcy plans.
Inclusion on this listing doesn’t mean the entire industry is down, as some from the same sectors appeared on the “Who’s Hiring” article published 11/26/10.
